Parotide dx I 2022Project suitable for projection or print

As I struggled with persistent breast pain, I underwent a few medical examinations, including breast and thyroid ultrasounds. Eventually, I had a minor surgery on my right breast. I have always questioned why my body was made this way. Why my breasts have been a source of both shame and fear.

This project reflects on a particular moment during my thyroid ultrasound. The doctor dismissed any connection between my thyroid and breast pain, suggesting the visit had been unnecessary—yet he also advised me to monitor my right gland for potential tumor risks.

In this work, I overlay my thyroid ultrasound with a graphic reproduction of a Roman column capital found in Sarsina. The mind has a way of merging seemingly unrelated memories, weaving together fragmented experiences into new impressions and unexpected questions. Here, internal anatomy converges with architectural form, juxtaposing the fragility of the body with the enduring search for beauty. It is an exploration of physical vulnerability, structure, and the shifting perceptions of our own corporeality.
